Exhibit Proposal, Cinema in Rome

Struggles & Takeaways

It was harder than I thought it would be coming up with artifacts that would work well together and breaking them into smaller sections within the exhibit. I had a really good time putting together exhibit write ups for each item and mocking up the display for the Throne of Commodus from the 2000 Roman epic movie Gladiator.

Project Brief

For my CLCV 444, The Archeology of Italy, final, I had the choice between writing a 10 page research paper and designing a museum exhibit of my choice. As much as I love research papers, I was very passionate about designing a museum exhibit inspired by cinema with depictions of Ancient Rome.

Process

A large part of the project was spent researching movies set in Ancient Rome and iconic props, costumes, and set pieces that would contribute well to an exhibit. I ended up with 15 artifacts to display and designed the layout based on a reading
we did discussing the Roman Memory Palace and how the original house itself was designed. The intended path I created was influenced by wanting visitors to start off with smaller artifacts and work their way up to larger items with more grandeur.
