Social Media, McKinley Health

Project Brief

As the social media intern for the McKinley Health Center, it’s my responsibility to help come up with ideas, design, post on, and manage
our social media accounts–with a focus on our Instagram–to better
reach our student audience.

Process

I work with my boss to come up with monthly posting calendars–taking
into consideration awareness months, on campus events, campaigns we’re running, that month's overall color theme, and more–before I start designing. I take into consideration how everything will look cohesively on our feed, what styles have been working well and what new styles could perform well, and the tone of the post content. From there, I design the posts and write
the captions before my boss and I meet to discuss edits.

Struggles & Takeaways

It can sometimes be hard coming up with new post ideas when I know we’re
a professional, medical service account and we do have both University and our own brand guidelines to keep in mind. That can feel extremely limiting sometimes while still trying to communicate well with students. In my last few months with McKinley, I’ve learned a lot about balancing these things and working with others to refine these posts and their content to best reach our audience.
